The most enjoyable domestic game in ages yesterday as we freezed our little Jane Horrocks off. A terrible away crowd turned up and those of you who took tickets but either moved them on or just didn't bother - to keep yor 'Co-Efficient' up, should be ashamed of yourselves. If we reach the cup final its the Ghirls and Bhoys there yesterday who should be first in the list for the prime seats, but I'm sure we won't be; I'm sure most of you abstainers will pull their favours as usual. A message for Celtic's new TO Manager, ask for the stubs back from the away clubs for these games and see who REALLY attends.
First half we were second from back row and enjoyed the football but with a slight distraction. Inevitably the Rebel Drum brigade were in the back row singing, sorry let me re-phrase that, shouting untunefully as loud as they could in time with no beat. No beat, well apart from with every clap of the hand a pristinely white shell suited young gentleman with more spots than a Dalmatian, gladly banged the back of the stand constantly. I'd like to say we were never like that, but; alas, I think most of us were. We just had much better tunes and ditties to chant and croon than these latest made up, talentless, juvenile dirges.
Eh Eh Oh Oh, some shitty club tune 'remixed' by the bairns to sound like, like, well, er, Eh Eh Oh Oh. And the song re Aiden McGeady and Artur the 'Holy' goalie have definitely NOT been penned by any budding Bono (Paulo Nutini for the bairns). Artur is obviously a practising Catholic, but I've yet to see the evidence that the Holy Father has indeed, made Artur Holy? He does perform some miracles at times so I could be swayed on that one.
Anyway, we moved to leave the weans to their E number induced (yeah right) highs and moved into the lower stand taking the opportunity to exploit Killie's generous free seating policy.
Well onto the game itself but I'm sure you've already read the repetitive reports and plagerised ditties. We looked like our old selves and I think the arrival of the new signings pumped up our midfield and forward line. Obviously Barry R was cup-tied but Samaras was on the bench and the threat of losing places in the side definitely seemd to put a few rockets up some erses.
Another delight was the full debut of Young Paul Caddis who played more like a right winger and provided his first assist, playing part in an intelligent move with Naka resulting in Skippy smashing the ball home at the front post. Gary Caldwell headered in the second to shut up some of the Killie NEDs, the third was a great fast moving play where big Jan finished with aplomb. The fourth, a good through ball from Naka, big Jan chased with Combe committed after trying to slip the ball past him, it came back to Jan who coolly cut back to Skippy who smashed it into the net.
The game saw the introduction of Samaras who, becasue of his orange dayglo boots our wee group christened Satsuma for the day, with our older second half colleagues calling him Pete (one can only assume after Sampras). A few good touches, passes and won some headers (you watching Jan?) and after 85 minutes he glided past Simon Ford into the box , flummoxed the defence and curled an effortless shot into Combe's bottom right hand corner. A perfect debut. How many Celtic strikers have dome that through the years? Well not Henke, but he's forgiven!
Well there you go let's hope this drives us on for the rest of the season.
A last word for our budding Andrew Lloyd Webers in the crowd?
Sebo, the guy who ran rampage against us, is no longer at Rangers.
