The arrival of Andreas Hinkel with Koki Mizuno well on his way things are looking much brighter.After the sadness and horror of Phil O'Donnel's tragic death we have to get back into action with Stirling Albion a fairly gentle way to start the new year.Results have to be immediate, we can't afford any more slacking or dropped points but with the arrivals and noises coming from Celtic Park it looks like we are ready for the challenge of making it three-in-a-row.VIDEO REPORT

Lisbon Lion John Fallon is well on the road to recovery, located at the top of Kerrydale Street, after a hip replacement operation before Christmas.His recovery is going well with the twin goals of the golf course and Celtic Park tantalisingly close.Ever popular with Celts throughout the world and a regular at the Las Vegas NAFCSC Conventions, John should be back to full fitness in the next couple of months.CLICK HERE for his video message

Fir Park Motherwell, Thursday 3 January 2008
It was very strange driving over to Fir Park yesterday, I'd never done this sort of thing before.The streets were strangely normal, quiet in mid-afternoon, no big fuss, nothing special happening.Getting closer and closer to the ground it still seemed normal as I parked outside the Fir Park Club but then as I got out and turned right towards the main stand everything was quieter, sadder and respectful as the tributes to Phil were laid out on display, a mixture of colours but mainly green, white, claret and amber.I couldn't go near the funeral today, the sadness will be unbearable.HHAIL HHAIL Phil, Fir Park Video

Phil O'Donnell RIP
A few days after the horrible events of Saturday it doesn't feel any easier thinking or writing about the death of Phil O'Donnell.As everyone before me has said he was a great guy, decent and straightforward and always a pleasure to talk to, a cheery reminder of an exciting era at Celtic where young guys like Phil, Simon Donnelly, Jackie McNamara and others like Malky Mackay and Stuart Kerr were mixing with guys like Paul McStay and Peter Grant plus others dropping in on the club such as Pierre van Hoojidonk and Paolo di Canio.The radio phone-ins seemed a bit subdued coming back from the Gretna match, a few messages were sent to Phil O'Donnell and his family and I thought that he'd maybe had a bad injury, perhaps career threatening knowing his bad luck.When Radio Scotland announced that Phil was dead it was like the end of the world, surely not? where did that come from, that can't be right... but it was.From a distance it was cold and painful enough, to those closer to Phil no one can imagine their feelings.Typically the football authorities managed to get things wrong, some games off as a mark of respect, some games on as a mark of respect, decisions reversed, leaving it to the clubs then insisting that Dundee United go ahead with a game four days after their players had watched an opponent die in front of them.Phil wasn't the greatest ever player but he never shirked anything, he could have packed it in after Sheffield Wednesday but enjoyed his time back at Motherwell putting something back into the game and releasing some of the frustrations of having a promising career decimated by injuries.Phil had time for everyone without bigging himself up and could be seen out and about in Hamilton always with a smile or hello for everyone.Tragic doesn't begin to describe his loss and words will never express the sadness of a wife and four kids left without their dad who lived the dream of millions of Celtic supporters.

Artur signs on but are we on for a Petrov

Unlike many a professional Journo, I, myself, was not out my scratcher at an un-Godly hour this am to await the confirmation of yesterday's rumours that Artur Boruc had indeed penned a new contract / contract extension.
For whatever their worth, and whatever anyone's opinion of football contracts, the one thing it does to a club like ours (big fish in teaspoon), is give us bargaining power and allows us once again to 'own' and indeed control our valuable assets.
The transfer of Stan Petrov to Aston Villa can be viewed in certain ways. Stan's bond with MON may have been so strong that he pined for the man who gave him his bumper contract, a habit to which Martin was not shy. On the other hand there are those who accuse the 'plc' and Stan of have been in cahootz to raise the value of said asset. I like to think it's much simpler than that and that Stan gave us 7 great years service as did Henrik, and he needed a fresh challenge that is the far overrated EPL, a league that in footballing terms is no competition to some others in Europe and is hyped by the media, and unfortunately some of our own support, who have 'second' teams.
Anyway I digress, thanks to Artur and Peter L for striking a deal and here's to his market value rocketing through more and more consistent and brave displays home and away.
